Landing to Upper Sioux State Park
Length of Trip:
2 1/2 hours
Difficulty: Easy for beginners and families with
young children
Meet At: Kinney Landing along Hwy 67 South of
Granite Falls

Bring Your Own Canoe - A limited number of canoes
are available for rent through CURE if your call ahead
to reserve one. Cost $20.00. Call 320-269-2984 by May
18, 2005. First come first served.
Join High School students from all over the world who
are part of the E.F. exchange program as they float down
this beautiful and historic stretch of the Minnesota
River.

River: Storlien's Mill to Upper Sioux State Park (Call
first to see if river levels are high enough to support
canoeing.)
Length of Trip: 2 1/2 - 3 hours
Difficulty: Experienced Canoeists and Kayakers
should be paired with inexperienced adventurers. Expect
to capsize, but don't worry, you might get lucky and
with skill you can avoid it, and even if you do, you'll
just get wet and will have a story to tell!
Meet At: The Tipis at Upper Sioux State Park
Campground.

History
Talks, Music and Story Telling at the Upper Sioux State
Park - Saturday, May 21, 2005 - 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM -
Bring the family down to hear the history of the Fur
Trade and what the Upper Minnesota River Valley was like
in the 1830's and 1840's from local historians.
- Janet
Timmerman from the Society for the Study and
Preservation of Local History based at Southwest
Minnesota University in Marshall.
- Joseph
Amato retired history professor and prolific author
from Southwest State University.
- Franz
Allbert Richter artist and cultural raconteur from Clarkfield.
- And
many other quest from throughout the Minnesota River
Watershed.
To fully
appreciate the evening, you might want to get your hands
on a couple of books, such as: Kinsmen of Another
Kind by Gary Clayton Anderson; Through Dakota
Eyes by Gary Anderson & Alan Woolworth, editors:
Little Crow, Spokesman For the Sioux by Gary
Clayton Anderson; Henry Hastings Sibley by Rhoda
R Gilman; On Foot: A History of Walking by Joseph
Amato.
A grill
will be provided. Bring your own meat to cook. Overnight
